Sundown Sentiments by Evelyn Marina

Sunshine Coast based abstract painter and text-based artist, Evelyn Marina shares her talents at the MET this week (Tuesday 11 to Thursday 13th October) with the on-site creation of Sundown Sentiments – a 9m x 2m street facing mural.

Inspiration for this mural came from a transitional moment in time spent at the artists local beach of Marcoola. Noticing the formation of small ocean pools in the sand, Evelyn was drawn to this series of natural mirrors of which every angle of reflection was different. As the tide came in, the mirror pools disappeared, and a soft glow of orange and pink colours formed along the horizon.

Sundown Sentiments is an invitation to slow down as life around us speeds up. It reminds the viewer to pay closer attention to our deep relationship to nature and encourages us to take the time to be more intentional and reflective so we can enjoy the small moments of connection and beauty that can often pass us by.

We acknowledge the Traditional owners, the Kabi Kabi/Gubbi Gubbi people, of the land on which we live and work. We pay our deep respect to their elders past, present and emerging, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today, throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community.
